Tires that can handle winter conditions

What are the tires that are winter approved and can be used during wintertime? Any tires that have the same severe service emblem that is depicted by the “Three Peak Mountain Snowflake“ symbol is approved for winter use. These include both types of winter tires, the studded and the non-studded plus the winter approved all-weather tires. This emblem signifying that they have passed the stringent requirements and based on performance tests are then approved use in severe winter conditions. The all-weather tires are composed of a specially formulated rubber compound that allows it to offer excellent traction even when the temperatures dip below freezing. The all-weather tire is actually a hybrid between an all-season tire and a winter tire making it well equipped to handle both snow and ice.  You will be able to drive on snow packed roads comfortably without compromising on safety. Tire changeovers when a new season approaches will be a thing of the past thereby eliminating the need to store a second set of tires.

Compared to all-season tires, all-weather tires have much better traction, especially on cold winter roads. It is for this reason that you will not be required to switch to dedicated winter tires when winter approaches. Provided that the all-weather tires are maintained, they will continue providing exceptional service throughout the year. Even when temperatures fall below freezing the all-weather tires will still be able to have the excellent grip on the surface that it comes in contact with. If you use all-season tires, then you will have to combine them with winter tires if you plan to drive in winter conditions. A timely change of tires before the winter starts is necessary to ensure good safety. This is one of the benefits with all-weather tires, that you always have the right tires on your car and don’t have to worry about tire changes. You do however have to rotate the tires when necessary, based on the wear.

All-weather tires like the Nokian WR G4 combines high-performance for all seasons while offering exceptional winter grip. This 4th generation all-weather tire builds on the uncompromising performance of its predecessors with new innovations like the “Blade Grooves” providing excellent performance in heavy rain, snowstorms as well as dry roads. The Blade Grooves efficiently routes rain, snow and slush away from the contact surface. The rubber compound of the tires is very similar to the rubber compounds of winter tires. It also features “three peak mountain snowflake” emblem. If you take a close look at the all-weather tire, you will find that it is somewhat different from a winter tire and it is this difference that allows it to work well in other seasons as well. The winter tires are only made to be used in winter.

As the all-weather tires are apt to handle winter conditions effectively, they hold the advantage over winter/snow tires in that they can be used in other seasons as well. The all-weather tires usually feature a strong construction that makes them quite durable while still remaining fuel efficient.
